There are different warning signs:

Puppy Mills - Several Breeds available with access to more, sell ';Designer'; dogs (Teacups, Poos and Doodles) and sell for the same price as purebreds, statement on their site ';We are not a Puppy Mill';, Health Guarantee available for an additional fee, take Visa / Mastercard / Paypal as payment, will ship to you without ever meeting you.

Backyard Greeders - Don't health test or show their dogs, sell ';Designer'; dogs, no health guarantee, send pups home as early as 5-6 weeks. Could be AKC Registered, but in no way a sign of Quality.

Both - Breed dogs that are way too young. Not AKC Registered - Registries could inclue APRI, CKC (Continential Kennel Club), ACAWhat are signs that dogs for sale are from an amateur breeder or puppy mill?
amueter breeder- all dogs at home and dogs are running around. probably mutts (designer dogs, ha!) and the dogs arent being very friendly

puppy mill- many 'designer' breeds at same price and they will never meet you. dogs will be very scared and timid. ALL AGGRESSION IS BASED ON FEAR! so when a dog is aggressive, it is afraid. that is the only reason. scared it will be beaten, scared it will be left behind. thats how puppy mill pups will be. just adopt! breeds dont matter! would you only be friends with someone who was british, but not mexican?
Multiple litters at one time, pups can't be registered with a reputable registry, dirty conditions, can't view the Dam, breeding mixed breed dogs, no health testing, no vaccinations or de-wormings, selling at too young of age.
A lack of titles and tests.
