Why a puppy..and not a adult? They are more then likely to be already potty trained..and if you are worried about kids..don't there are thousands of dogs out there that are great..you prolly just need to train you kids if you any ;x
Look on www.petfinder.com for puppies in your area that fit what you are looking for.
Shelters and dog rescues have lots of dogs and pups.
